In one of the most closely watched State House primaries, a long-time member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, Phyllis Kahn, faces two challengers - Ilhan Omar and Mohamud Noor. This debate offers opportunities for each candidate to address the core issues and challenges facing Disctrict 60B and Minnesota. This event will be moderated by Prof. Larry Jacobs and Briana Bierschbach, State Government Reporterat MinnPost.
Phyllis Kahn is a member of the Minnesota Legislature serving her 21st term. Representative Kahn currently acts as the DFL-Lead on the Legacy Committee. In addition, she is a member of the Ways and Means and State Government Finance Committees. She is also a member of the Legislative Commission on Pensions and Retirement.
Mohamud Noor is a former Minneapolis school board member, with a career in social services. For 14 years, Noor worked for Hennepin County and the State of Minnesota – helping others across the state access healthcare, housing, nutrition, child care, and jobs. Noor is currently the Executive Director for the Confederation of Somali Community in Minnesota at the Brian Coyle Community Center
Ilhan Omar is an experienced policy analyst, community educator and advocate. She currently serves as the Director of Policy Initiatives at Women Organizing Women, where she empowers East African women to take civic leadership roles in their community.
