This past Thursday, I joined two young men from the West Bank on a visit to the Twin Cities Social Justice Education Fair in St. Paul. The theme for the event was “Decolonizing Our Schools: Building Asian, Black, Brown & Indigenous Power” and it was real eye opening opportunity for the young men.
The fair presented the chance to see the work that is being done to make people aware of the injustices and the solutions that have brought forth by the participating agencies and organizations.
Even at their young age, our youth in Cedar Riverside have a unique understanding of the social injustice and structural racism gained from their life experiences. The fair provided them with the opportunity to name and better understand the spectrum of inequality that has real negative affect on their current and future social mobility.
