The West Bank Community Coalition (WBCC) is seeking a part-time Youth Organizer to help the organization ensure assertive and appropriate strategies in engaging the diverse communities that reside in the neighborhood.
The organizer will work with the Executive Director to plan and coordinate an engagement campaign that specifically targets the neighborhood’s sizable youth and young adult population to identify relevant issues and opportunities, and to help develop programs, services, and activities that meet community needs.
The position’s primary function is to ensure all community members feel welcome and encouraged to actively participate in WBCC’s work to improve quality of life in the neighborhood.
Brief Job Description:
This part time position will report to WBCC’s Executive Director and will:
Conduct general outreach activities to provide a first point of access to WBCC for youth and young adults in the neighborhood.
Organize and plan linguistically-accessible and culturally appropriate community meetings, events, and other volunteer activities intended to bring community members together and provide them with an opportunity to shape their neighborhood’s direction.
Grow an engaged grassroots volunteer base to get involved with WBCC at varying levels, from planning events to serving on committees and providing other input on and suggestions for WBCC work.
Attend any relevant WBCC events and provide translation services as necessary.
Translate any public materials, write newsletter articles, and provide other written materials in Somali or Oromo as appropriate.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Must be bilingual – can read, write, and speak both English and either Somali or Oromo
Previous community organizing, leadership development, and youth development experience is a plus
Experience recruiting, organizing, and leading volunteers
Knowledge of community and government systems is a plus
Good computer skills
Experience in planning, organizing, and implementing community events
Experience in facilitating groups or building leadership capacity
Flexible schedule – evenings and weekends required
Salary: $13 - $15 per hour - based on experience
This is a part-time position - 15 hours per week. This position is eligible for paid sick and vacation time, but is not eligible for health care benefits at this time.
